KENNEDY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

BAY ARE CHAPTER — Newark, CA

Big Picture

In May of 2019, the talented designers from Forge and Project Color Corps came together to transform two of the buildings at Kennedy Elementary which serves children from preschool through 5th grade, with over 400 students and 50 staff members in an under-resourced community of Newark, CA.

The school is committed to providing a positive, safe and stimulating environment for the children. Unfortunately, due to restricted budgets and constrained support, the school’s walls did not reflect this mission and vision.

A Conversation About Color

Through an interactive color seminar led by Project Color Corps’ founder Laura Guido-Clark, the students learned about the transformational power of color. We played interactive color games which highlighted differences between colors. By sharing how their favorite colors made them feel, the students gained an understanding of how color can influence not only their environment but how they felt about themselves.

The Transformation

Forge designers crafted mural designs highlighting and reflecting what the students shared. The students loved the floral pattern and overwhelmingly voted for PEACEFUL PLAYFUL.

With the generosity of sponsors, volunteers, and the school’s community, we were able to transform the school’s art and library walls into a place that beckons students and teachers alike to further their art of learning and creativity.
