Color is the medium, but it is our process that is truly foundational to who we are.

  • Look at the places where we expect children to learn, families to connect, and people to thrive.

In far too many neighborhoods and communities, these buildings are not welcoming; they don’t make the people who use them feel joy or valued.

These are essential locations that provide the backdrop to our lives and our memories: schools, libraries, community centers, and areas of play.

Together, we can transform these buildings into places where people want to be, places where everyone feels like they belong, places we can all be proud to be a part of—places where our whole community can celebrate everyday life.

  • At Project Color Corps, we collaborate with people to add color to their essential community spaces, creating beauty, belonging, and joy.

We sit down with students and community members, and we talk about color—what it means to each of us, how it makes us feel, what memories it brings up, and so much more.

During these conversations, we teach the fundamentals of color, the connection between color and emotion, and how color can be transformative.

Mostly, we do a lot of listening.

This is the time when we hear stories, we feel a lot of emotions, and we get to see people as they share themselves with us. Calling this our “process” doesn’t even feel right, because it’s not something that’s cut and dry or formulaic. It’s an experience that’s hard to put into words—just like color.

We then take everything we learned from these conversations to create a visual narrative that represents the unique essence of the community.

Then, with the help of professional designers and artists, we bring that idea to life.

We engage and employ professional painters and galvanize volunteers to roll up their sleeves and paint.
